Click on the links below to see examples of common records I have found on my ancestors. I would like to say that they are typical records, but I don't think that there is any such thing. Some records are in better shape than these -- some are a LOT worse! What is typical, though, is the type of information that is included. There again, there are variations; but most records will include the information you will see here. Obviously, what makes these records even more difficult to read, is that they are written in Portuguese. So, I was forced to learn at least enough of the language to make it possible for me to translate the records I find. I consider that an added benefit to this wonderful hobby!
Baptism: This is the baptism record of my 5th Great Grandmother, Maria Garcia.She was the daughter of Pedro Viera (Fagundes) and Magdalena Garcia and was born in Sao Mateus, Pico, Azore Islands, Portugal on 19 May 1729.
Marriage (casamento): This is the marriage record for another pair of my 5th Great Grandparents, Clemente Faria and Ignes Francisca de Jesus who were married in Sao Mateus, Pico, Azore Islands, Portugal on 21 May 1765.
Death record (obit): This is the death record for Manuel Goularte de Costa, my 6th Great Grandfather. He was a parishoner of the Church in Sao Mateus, Pico, Azore Islands, Portugal when he died on 5 Feb 1763..
